Sugar beet pulp
Sugar beet is a by-product of the production of sugar from sugar beet. The extraction of sugar starts with the cleaning of the beet delivered to the factory, after which the beet is sliced up into small strips (pulp) and then mashed by heating with water to a temperature of approx. 70°C to dissolve the sugar from the pulp. The sugar water and the pulp are separated in an extraction tower.
Thanks to their valuable properties, these products are highly sought after feed concentrate components sectors – in their fresh as well as in their refined forms – by the animal feed and animal husbandry.
Our animal feed products comply with the high animal feed quality standards. They have GMP+ certification and satisfy quality assurance specifications.
Pressed pulp can be used as an animal feed supplement and is classified as an energy-rich wet supplement. It is supplied with a dry substance content of approx. 25%, which varies depending on the specific sugar factory.
The wet pulp from which the sugar has been extracted in the extraction tower (approx. 12% dry substance) is pressed further in a mechanical process to produce the pressed pulp.
The fresh pressed pulp is an excellent product for either feeding directly or for the production of silage.
Sugar beet dry pulp
Sugar beet pulp is a valuable and highly marketable animal feed product that is a by-product of the sugar extraction process.
The extracted pulp is gently dried and then pressed into pellets. This not only makes this valuable feedstuff storable and flowable, it also makes it easier to grind and mix together with other animal feed components.
Dry pulp pellets are an important component for the production of feed concentrate. They can also be used as a food supplement on their own.
Appetising and rich in raw fibre, easy-to-digest and with good swelling capacities, the energy supplement from sugar beet pulp enhances the wellbeing of cattle, horses, pigs and sheep. The dried sugar beet pulp is a valuable source of roughage, and therefore an optimal animal feed supplement. Sugar beet pulp has a high proportion of fibre which is particularly easily exploitable by ruminants. Fibre largely consists of cellulose, hemi-cellulose and pectins which can be continuously metabolised, unlike starch and sugar. The nutrients are almost exclusively broken down by microorganisms in the rumen and the large intestines, where they are primarily broken down into acetic acid. Acetic acid is a building block for fat synthesis and is less harmful to the rumen than the lactic acid which is produced in considerable quantities when digesting starch. The swelling capacity of dried beet pulp is an important property in the digestive tracts of monogastric animals (such as pigs). Because the fibres are not digested until they enter the large intestines, the swelling up of the pulp, and therefore the filling of the digestive tract, calms down the animals, e.g. farrowing sows, and prevents excess fattening.
More energy thanks to molasses
Some of the beet pulp is mixed with sugar beet molasses before drying. The molasses contains the sugar that is bound within the syrup and can therefore not be directly extracted in crystalline form. This sugar is very easily digestible.
It represents an important additional energy source for monogastric animals. Ruminants benefit from the molasses, particularly because the sugar becomes rapidly available in the rumen. This sugar is lacking in many other animal feeds, especially those made from silage.

These properties make our pellets very useful in a wide range of applications as a separate feed supplement or as mixed-feed components.

Storage and shelf life
Storage should take place in conditions with a relative air humidity of <65%. Only store this product in locations with adequate insulation and appropriate ventilation systems/equipment to ensure that the product remains safe. Dried sugar beet pulp with molasses can be stored for several months under optimal storage conditions.
